Why gratitude is important

Why gratitude is important

Regularly practicing gratitude rewires our brain to experience more positive moments. Our brain changes depending on our experiences, also known as neuroplasticity. This means when we practice overriding unhelpful thoughts with more balanced and helpful ones, overtime we can make our brain more likely to experience positive emotions. Why not start a daily gratitude practice?

Here are some prompts to help you practice gratitude:

  • Write down three things you are grateful for
  • What went well today?
  • Express gratitude to an important person in your life
  • Recognise three things in your life you usually take for granted
  • Think back and reflect on the things you’re grateful for in the past year
