Feeling powerful

Feeling powerful

When do you feel powerful?

Power impacts nearly every aspect of our lives, influencing how we think and act in our relationships and the workplace. When we feel powerful, we feel in control over our life and make decisions in line with our goals.

Benefits to feeling powerful

When we feel powerful we show up with more authenticity, confidence, greater capacity for empathy, improved wellbeing and reduced stress. We are also more motivated and goal-orientated. Feeling powerful is also linked to improved executive functioning, allowing us to focus, problem-solve, think more creatively and adapt to change.

Fostering feelings of power

To foster more feelings of power, ask yourself when you feel most powerful. When you recall your own powerful moments it makes you more likely to feel and act powerfully in the present.

Here are some ways to cultivate or maintain feelings of power:

  • Set achievable goals
  • Practice helpful self-talk
  • Maintain a strong support network
  • Remind yourself of your strengths and capabilities
  • Advocate for yourself and your ideas
  • Practice self-care
  • Set and maintain boundaries

Why not support others when they feel less powerful too?
